From there, the Rhine cycle route leads upstream; those who wish can turn off into the Lahn Valley.1

The headland where the Mosel flows into the Rhine, crowned by the massive equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm. The classic first stop when exploring Koblenz on foot.
Lahn Valley
The Lahn's side valley runs green and quieter than the Rhine bank inland. A good change of scene for hiking or an unhurried paddle.
Thurant Castle
The twin-towered castle above the Mosel near Alken, well preserved and still lived in. The climb pays off with a view over the vineyards; an afternoon is enough.
