Simmern

AlpacaCamping 2256

A pitch above Simmern, a couple of kilometres north-east of Koblenz. There's not much to say in the description — it's supposed to be quiet here, and the view is right. That's why nothing more is claimed. Those who wake up early will hear the wind in the trees, otherwise very little. It's about seven kilometres to Koblenz, to the Deutsches Eck, where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet. The Rheinradweg runs along the water below. Evenings: barely a sound.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

Sights in the area1

Deutsches Eck, Koblenz

The headland where the Moselle meets the Rhine, topped by the huge Kaiser Wilhelm monument. About 7 km away, the obvious first stop.

Rheinradweg

The cycle path runs flat along the riverbank, from Koblenz in both directions. Good for a day without climbs and with a view of the water.

Lahn Valley

The narrow Lahn valley joins the Rhine near Koblenz, with half-timbered villages and castles on the slopes. A quieter alternative to the Rhine bank.

Thurant Castle

Twin-towered castle above Alken on the Moselle, looking out over the vineyards. An afternoon is enough to take it in.
