AlpacaCamping 1077
The host doesn't write much: a place where you like to stay, and a starting point for hikes or bike tours. Nothing more is made of it here. Marksuhl lies in western Thuringia, where forested slopes descend toward the Werra Valley. Buzzards over the fields in the morning. Otherwise little traffic. Eisenach is closer than Erfurt; from there the route leads into the Drachenschlucht between wet rock walls. To Erfurt it's around 57 kilometers.1

Sights in the area1
Drachenschlucht Gorge near Eisenach
A narrow gorge in the Thuringian Forest, barely a metre wide at its tightest; boardwalks follow the stream, and it stays cool in high summer.
Wartburg Castle
The castle above Eisenach where Luther translated the New Testament. The walk up takes a good half hour, and the view runs far across the land.
Erfurt Old Town
About 57 kilometres away, with the Krämerbrücke and Severikirche close together. The fallback when rain ruins the walking plans.
