Tent and pitch in the green
A simple stop in Kulmbach, designed for one night: a quick stay to recharge before moving on. The Plassenburg towers above the city, a broad Renaissance castle in Upper Franconia. Hiking trails lead into the surrounding countryside, with the route following the Beer and Castles Route. To the south begins Franconian Switzerland with its rock formations and caves. There's hardly any program. Instead, you're back on the road quickly in the morning.1
What Hinterland writes

Sights in the area1
Plassenburg
The wide Renaissance castle high above Kulmbach, once seat of the margraves. Inside hangs the tin-figure museum with thousands of painted figures, the town's rainy-day classic.
Rosenberg Fortress
One of Germany's largest preserved fortresses, high above Kronach in the Frankenwald. You can walk the ramparts all the way round, with far views into the upper Main valley.
Ehrenbürg (Walberla)
The striking table mountain of Franconian Switzerland, to the south towards Forchheim. A short, steep climb, then a wide view over the Regnitz valley; half a day is enough.
