Camper Westermoor
A privately run site at the forest edge near Aurich, six kilometres outside, close to the Ems-Jade-Kanal. Forest at the front, pasture and moorland at the back with an excavation lake. In the mornings the host's chickens crow, and the pony neighs. Toilet and shower are in a container, plus water and electricity connections. Sauna and boat tours can be booked on site. In the evenings a campfire burns, wood for a small fee. Dogs only by prior arrangement.1

Sights in the area1
Pilsum Lighthouse
The yellow-and-red lighthouse behind the dyke, famous from the Otto film; the short dyke walk out to it is worth it in any weather.
Lütetsburg Castle
A baroque moated castle with a sprawling 18th-century landscape garden; the park with its old giant trees and ponds is the go-to for a rainy afternoon.
Greetsiel
An old fishing village on the coast with twin windmills and shrimp cutters in the harbour; a dyke bike path runs from here to the Pilsum lighthouse.
