Pitch Sauerland Höhenflug

Three parking spaces next to a country inn near Finnentrop, directly by the cattle pasture. The hamlet Faulebutter has nine residents, right in the middle of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature reserve. Still, there's plenty going on during the day: motorcyclists stop for a break in the beer garden, and hikers pass by from the Sauerland Höhenflug long-distance hiking trail. Cyclists on the Lenneroute also stop by. In the evening it gets quiet. Then the pasture next door stays empty, the stove goes cold because everyone eats in the restaurant. Fresh water is available at the farm. It's around twenty kilometres to Sorpesee.1

Sights in the area1

Sorpesee

A reservoir near Sundern, about 20 kilometres away. Swimming, sailing and a lakeside path make it the place to head for on warm days, when the pitch feels too quiet.

Wildewiese ski area with Schombergturm

A small ski area on the Schomberg, roughly 10 kilometres off. Lifts and cross-country tracks in winter; in summer you climb the Schombergturm for a wide view over the Sauerland — the local lookout.

Rönkhausen pumped-storage plant

The Rönkhausen pumped-storage plant, just 5 kilometres away. An upper reservoir high above the valley stores power overnight — a short detour for anyone who likes engineering in the landscape.
