Natural camping between Cologne and Bonn
A park-like garden between Cologne and Bonn, on the Wahner Heide. The neighbours roam freely: three Soay sheep, a couple of chickens, plus running ducks that chatter across the meadow in the morning. There is space for tents and small campers up to six metres, but you need to ask first. It's about 16 kilometres to Cologne, and the Königsforst forest starts next door. Siegburg and Bonn's museum mile are also close by. Evenings: little entertainment.1

Sights in the area1
Wahner Heide
Heathland with dunes, bogs and juniper right next to the garden; waymarked loops of every length, ideal for an afternoon without the car.
Cologne Cathedral
The Gothic cathedral right beside the main station, about 16 kilometres away; the tower climb pays off on clear days, and inside you stay dry in the rain.
Siebengebirge
Wooded volcanic hills above the Rhine near Königswinter, with the Drachenfels and its castle ruin; the hiking day south of Bonn when the heath feels too flat.
Phantasialand
Theme park in Brühl with roller coasters and themed worlds; the place for a long day with children, easiest to plan on weekdays outside the holidays.
