Fort at the horse farm

A parking spot in the middle of a horse farm near Greiz in the Vogtland: a round pen enclosed by wooden walls for privacy, right next to the pasture and riding arena. In the mornings you'll hear the horses in the paddock, otherwise it stays quiet. Nothing but nature all around, no hustle and bustle. If you want to venture further, head to Höllental or to the Bleiloch dam, both among the better-known spots in the Vogtland. Chemnitz is about 49 kilometers away. There's not much entertainment here — but plenty of pasture and peace and quiet.1

Sights in the area1

Höllental

A narrow rock gorge on the Thuringia-Bavaria border. The trail through the ravine over walkways and cliffs is the outing for an active day.

Bleiloch Reservoir

By volume the largest reservoir in Germany, damming the Saale into a widely branching lake; swimming and boating, the classic for warm days in the region.

Burgk Castle

A well-preserved castle high above the Saale, now a museum. The view from the keep into the valley rewards the walk, and rain fills an afternoon indoors.
