Forest camping in Franconian Switzerland

A newly planted meadow orchard on the outskirts of Betzenstein, right next to the hosts' holiday home. Franconia's smallest town. The view overlooks the Veldensteiner Forst. A dedicated fire pit is still to be built here; until then, you can use the one at the house by arrangement, with firewood provided by the hosts. The fruit trees are young, shade is still growing. Teufelshöhle near Pottenstein is in the same corner of the Fränkische Schweiz. In the evening, it smells of smoke.1

What Hinterland writes

Sights in the area1

Teufelshöhle Cave, Pottenstein

A large dripstone cave in Franconian Switzerland, cool underground all year round. The region's classic rainy-day outing.

Gößweinstein

Pilgrimage village above the Wiesent valley, with a basilica and a castle on the rock. The view reaches far across the valleys; an afternoon is enough.

Veldenstein Forest

The large woodland the meadow looks out on. Pines on karst ground, plus forest tracks for mountain biking that stay shaded even on hot days.
