Campsite by the Coast
A meadow near Küsten, nestled against a small woodland. Tents only. No water, no toilet — you bring what you need, and take your rubbish back home. Lotte, who allocates the pitches, doesn't make much fuss about it. In the mornings, you mainly hear the forest. It's around 70 kilometres to Wolfsburg and Allersee. All around lies the Wendland with its Rundlingsdörfer: farmsteads arranged in a circle around a village green, their gables all facing inward.1

Sights in the area1
Rundling villages of the Wendland
Farmsteads arranged in a circle around a central green, a medieval settlement pattern. The villages sit close together and can be cycled in an afternoon.
Lower Saxon Elbe Valley
The biosphere reserve follows the river. Cranes stop here in large numbers in autumn, and in summer the dyke paths make good cycling, headwind included.
Allersee in Wolfsburg
A swimming lake with meadows on the edge of town, about 70 kilometres away. The day trip for anyone finding the tent site too quiet.
