A meadow near Küsten, nestled against a small woodland. Tents only. No water, no toilet — you bring what you need, and take your rubbish back home. Farmsteads arranged in a circle around a central green, a medieval settlement pattern. The villages sit close together and can be cycled in an afternoon.

The biosphere reserve follows the river. Cranes stop here in large numbers in autumn, and in summer the dyke paths make good cycling, headwind included.
Allersee in Wolfsburg
A swimming lake with meadows on the edge of town, about 70 kilometres away. The day trip for anyone finding the tent site too quiet.
