Sights in the area1
Border Museum in the Former Watchtower
The old watchtower still stands, along with the House on the Border and the Bridge of Unity. Walkable from the site and the area's shortest history lesson.
Green Belt
The strip along the former inner-German border is now a hiking trail and biotope. It starts at the property, so you simply set off without any drive.
Northern Kuppenrhön
Basalt domes above the Werra valley, short climbs with wide views. Good for half a day when paddling on the Werra is off the table.
Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe
World Heritage site above Kassel, about 67 km away: cascades, aqueduct and Hercules at the top. The day trip for when the river gets too quiet.
