AlpacaCamping 726
A campsite just outside Grub am Forst, close to the edge of the forest. Space available for tents and motorhomes, and the host takes care of everything. The road is nearby. Hardly disruptive, though. If you want to hike, you're right at the forest's doorstep. Coburg with its Veste fortress isn't far; the Frankenwald with Rosenberg fortress near Kronach is worth a day trip. In the morning, the air smells of pine before your first steps crunch on the forest path.1

Sights in the area1
Veste Coburg
One of Germany's largest castle complexes, set high above Coburg; the art collections and the view from the ramparts easily carry a rainy day.
Rosenberg Fortress
A mighty hilltop fortress above Kronach, never taken in its history; today a museum and casemates fill the walls, plus a wide view over the surroundings.
Frankenwald
A wooded low mountain range in northern Upper Franconia, dense with marked trails; the place to head when you want a longer walk through the forests from the site.
