Duchroth

Camping at the Winery

The pitches are located on the vineyard, at the edge of Duchroth. In front of you, the land slopes down into the middle Nahe valley: rows of vines, behind them the Lemberg, the highest mountain in the area, and the rock face of the Rotenfels. On the adjacent pasture stand sheep and chickens, plus a couple of Kunekune pigs, a breed from New Zealand. You hear them in the morning, before anything else stirs. Down below, wine is made; up here, it stays quiet. The rest is views.1

Sights in the area1

Rotenfels

The red cliff face rising over the Nahe near Bad Münster, visible from afar. A path runs along the top edge with views across the whole valley — the trip for the first clear morning.

Lemberg

The highest hill on the Nahe, just behind the vineyards. From the top the view runs over the rows of vines into the Palatinate; a manageable half-day walk from the valley.

Burg Rheinstein

One of the Rhine castles above the river near Trechtingshausen, with turrets and terraces over the water. The classic afternoon out when it rains at the pitch.
