Münsterland · Hagen am Teutoburger Wald

Campground in Hildesheim

The site is an open and spacious field with a small forest in the background. Ground cover here consists of taller grasses, fading flowers, occasional shrubs or vines that grow upward in search of sunlight. Open space means it's easy to pitch your tent without getting in anyone else's way, but you might want to stay close by if there are mosquitoes around! There is running water trickling through the mossy rocks in this area, which is great for collecting fresh drinking water - just bend down and hold your hands under the stream if you need to!1

Sights in the area1

Osnabrück

About 12 kilometres away. The Peace of Westphalia was partly negotiated in the town hall in 1648 and the Peace Hall still stands; the old town also holds up on a rainy afternoon.

Teutoburg Forest

The wooded ridge that gives the village its name. The Hermannsweg trail runs along the crest, and the stages can easily be cut short along the way.

Kalkriese

North of Osnabrück lies the likely site of the Varus battle, today a museum and park. Half a day, and it works in mixed weather too.
