Farm camping in Allgäu

A dairy farm near Dietmannsried, in the heart of the Allgäu. The operation runs as a full-time business, and visitors are welcome to watch the daily farm activities. Pitches are nestled among fruit trees with an open view of the mountains; paved ground is available for rainy days or short stops. In the morning, the air smells of stable and wet grass. Otherwise, there's little in terms of organized activities. Excursions are all within the surrounding area: the Breitachklamm gorge with its suspension bridge, Lake Forggensee, and the Buchenegger waterfalls.1

Sights in the area1

Breitachklamm gorge

A narrow rock gorge near Oberstdorf, crossed by the Zwingsteg footbridge, where the water has cut deep into the stone. The place to go on a day the farm feels too quiet.

Forggensee

A large reservoir in the eastern Allgäu near Füssen, with pleasure boats and a flat lakeside cycle path in summer. The nearby cool-off on hot days.

Buchenegger Waterfalls

Two falls near Oberstaufen dropping into a deep pool; in high summer the bold jump in. A hiking destination for half a day.

Ulm

The nearest larger town, about 65 km away; the Minster carries the tallest church spire in the world. The rainy-day classic when the Allgäu sits under fog.
