Teutoburger Wald · Detmold

At the old carpenter shop

A small fruit orchard and an old company parking lot, four and a half kilometers from Detmold's town center. Surrounded by old houses, farmland and a NABU nature reserve, plus a quiet country road. Sanitary facilities: none. There's room for two motorhomes and a couple of tents, nothing more fits. In the mornings, bird calls from the adjacent nature reserve, during the day the distant country road. From here you can drive in all directions into Lipperland: the Hermannsdenkmal stands above the Teutoburger Wald, the Externsteine are a bit further on.1

What Hinterland writes

„The place is a small meadow with fruit trees and former company parking lot. Only 4.5 km from the center of Detmold. So in the middle of the beautiful Lipperland with its sights. Quietly situated on a country road, between old houses, fields and a NABU area.“

Sights in the area1

Hermannsdenkmal

The copper-green monument on the Grotenburg ridge above Detmold; from the platform at its base the view stretches across the Lipperland — the classic first-afternoon trip.

Externsteine

The five sandstone pillars in the Teutoburg Forest near Horn-Bad Meinberg, with a rock tomb and ridge path; come early before the tour buses arrive.

Tierpark Olderdissen

Bielefeld's wildlife park at the edge of the Teutoburg Forest shows native animals with free entry; a good rainy-day fallback, about 23 km away.
