A parking spot at Armin's in Schefflenz, right in the middle of the Odenwald. You're parked between tall trees in the shade, which counts on hot days. It's quiet here, day and night. Power is available, water too, and you can empty the toilet. If you stay longer, you pay less – at least that's how it worked for the guests before us. The Felsenmeer or Margarethenschlucht make for a nice day trip, and Heilbronn with its steep vineyard slopes is about 32 kilometres away. You don't need much entertainment here.1

A slope covered in man-sized boulders you can clamber over; traces of Roman quarry work lie between them. The place for kids who need to move.
Margarethenschlucht
A narrow gorge in the Odenwald with a waterfall spilling over sandstone steps; after rainy days the brook runs fullest. The classic for a walking afternoon.
Heilbronn
A wine town on the Neckar, about 32 kilometres away, with steep vineyards near Talheim and the Heuchelberger Warte above the vines. The place when you want a town and a market.
