Nördlinger Ries · Wechingen

AlpacaCamping 1986

A parking spot on the meadow between the house wall and trees, right in the middle of Wechingen in the Nördlinger Ries. In front of the camper there's space for a couple of chairs, with a view of the street and the house opposite. In the courtyard there's a seating area under an old linden tree, and you're welcome to use the kitchen and washing machine indoors. At night you can hear cows and chickens from next door. A hidden staircase leads down to the Wörnitz, great for your dog. All around the Donau-Ries. Flat cycling country.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

Nördlingen Town Wall

Nördlingen is one of the few towns with a fully walkable town wall; the covered rampart walk circles the whole old town once — a stroll for half an afternoon.

The Daniel

The tower of St George's church above Nördlingen; climb the roughly 350 steps to the watchman's room and, on a clear day, the whole Ries crater opens up. The area's lookout.

Ries Crater Museum

The museum in Nördlingen shows how a meteorite shaped the Ries some 15 million years ago; the rainy-day classic for anyone wanting to grasp the crater beneath the cycle paths.
