AlpacaCamping 1736

A secluded spot on the dyke near Wittmund, with East Frisia's wide sky stretching above the grass. You can walk all the way to Carolinensiel and reach the beach. The wind turbine next door is part of the landscape: sometimes it stands still, sometimes the wind carries its humming over. Otherwise, the dyke keeps to itself. Early risers will find the grass still damp and the dyke sheep almost entirely to themselves. Space for tents, caravans and motorhomes—there's nothing more in terms of amenities.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„Very nice secluded spot right on the dike.
Carolinensiel and the beach are easily accessible on foot.
The windmill is more or less audible depending on wind direction.“

Sights in the area1

Pilsum Lighthouse

The yellow-and-red lighthouse behind the dike, famous from the Otto film. The short walk along the dike is worth it in any weather.

Cycle path Greetsiel – Pilsum Lighthouse

Flat dike route between the fishing village of Greetsiel and the lighthouse, wind almost always included. A good half-day on the bike.

Lütetsburg Castle

Sprawling landscape park around the castle, with ponds and old trees. The rainy-day classic when the wind on the dike turns too cold.

Oldenburg

The nearest larger town, about 68 km away, with an old quarter and castle square. The escape when you do want a city after all.
