AlpacaCamping 1321
A parking spot in Süderdeich, right in the heart of Dithmarschen, behind the dike. The site has its own bathroom and a farm shop at the door. Many animals live on the farm; in the morning you hear them before the wind sweeps across the marshland. If you want to swim, you head to the swimming pond – no pool edge, just water. You don't need to worry about the wonderful hosts. To reach the Eidersperrwerk, you drive out to the coast; the Hochdonn railway bridge spans further east across the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal.1

Sights in the area1
Eidersperrwerk
The large storm-surge barrier at the mouth of the Eider, where river meets North Sea. A trip to the coast that holds up in any weather.
Hochdonn Railway High Bridge
The steel bridge carries the railway high above the Kiel Canal. From below the trains look tiny up top, while freighters pass underneath.
NOK Ferry Hohenhörn
One of the small canal ferries that cross the Kiel Canal for free. A short crossing with a good view of the passing ships.
Kiel
The state capital on the fjord, about 81 km away. Harbour, ships and the Baltic for a day, when the marshland calls for a change.
