A place at the horse ranch

A site on the outskirts of Wesselburen, on a horse ranch for leisure and Western riders. Bring your own horse if you like; four individual paddocks are available. In the morning it smells of straw, mixed with the snorting from the stables. The train station and shop are less than ten minutes' walk away. It's eleven kilometers to Büsum and twenty-six to St. Peter-Ording. Dithmarscher marshland, flat all the way to the horizon.1

What Hinterland writes

Sights in the area1

Eidersperrwerk

The large barrage at the mouth of the Eider keeps storm surges out of the marsh; a spot for kite flyers on windy days, with seals resting on the sandbanks when it is calm.

Büsum

The shrimp-cutter harbour eleven kilometres away, with its dike and mudflat edge. A rewarding afternoon when fresh shrimp are sold on the quay.

St. Peter-Ording

The wide sandy beach with its stilt houses lies about twenty-six kilometres on; the go-to for a day by the water, even in a stiff breeze.
