Pietzmoor
The largest bog in the Lüneburg Heath, near Schneverdingen. A boardwalk takes you dry-footed into the middle; in autumn the cotton grass turns rust-red.
Totengrund
A juniper-lined valley basin near Wilsede. When the heather blooms in August, the hollow turns purple — best early in the morning, before the carriages arrive.
Brunsberg
A wooded ridge near Handeloh, a short climb to a view over the heath. A fitting goal for a bike loop from the farm.
Außenalster, Hamburg
Hamburg lies about 38 kilometres north. The Außenalster belongs to sailors and rowers; the shoreline loop is the easy city day out.
