Ehingen (Donau)

AlpacaCamping 5019

A quiet place near Ehingen (Donau). The host promises little: a place to switch off and a wide view, nothing more is mentioned. Enough for a few silent days with tent or motorhome. If you're an early riser, you have the view to yourself before the day begins. Ulm is seventeen kilometers further on, the Blautopf near Blaubeuren on the way. All around the Schwäbische Alb, with its waterfall trails and old castles.1

Sights in the area1

Blautopf

The karst spring near Blaubeuren glows deep blue to green depending on the light; its water rises from the Alb's cave system. A short stop on the way to or from Ulm.

Schloss Lichtenstein

The small fairy-tale castle sits on a crag above the Echaz valley, high on the edge of the Alb. The view from the drawbridge is worth the trip even without going inside.

Burg Hohenzollern

The castle towers over the Alb, visible for miles and one of Germany's best known. Further off than the rest, but worth a full day out in clear weather.
