Campsite at the Fish Pond

A very quiet pitch at fish ponds just before the entrance to Heppenheim; a stream runs around the site. There is no electricity or sanitary facilities – those who come here need to bring what they need. A fireplace, table and chairs are available for grilling. Fishing is not permitted at the moment. But it's peaceful enough for children, and during the day you mainly hear the water. It's not far to Heppenheim's old town; Schloss Auerbach is further up the Bergstraße.1

Sights in the area1

Heppenheim Old Town

The market square with its half-timbered houses and old town hall fills a half-afternoon; the vineyards of the Bergstrasse climb the slopes all around.

Auerbach Castle

The hilltop ruin above Auerbach has two towers to climb; from the top the view reaches far across the Rhine plain, a good aim for a hiking day.

Felsenmeer on the Felsberg

A slope full of granite boulders in the Odenwald to scramble over; the go-to when kids need to burn off some energy.

Mannheim

The grid-planned city on the Rhine, about 23 km away, with its water tower and art gallery; the day out when vineyards aren't enough.
