Meadow with open views into Alsace...

A free meadow above Herbolzheim, in the valley, with views west towards Alsace. The ground is firm, even light rain won't cause problems. In the evening the sun sets over the Rhine plain, the Vosges mountains stand out in the distance. The site is basic: 30 litres of fresh water free of charge, electricity metered and charged extra — you'll need a long cable for that. Toilet disposal: not available. Motorhomes and caravans yes, tents no. Quiet hours from ten o'clock onwards, due to the holiday apartments next door. Freiburg is a good twenty kilometres to the south.1

What Hinterland writes

Sights in the area1

Freiburg im Breisgau

The university town with its minster and the little Bächle channels in the lanes, about 24 km south. The city day when the meadow gets too quiet.

Schauinsland

Freiburg's local mountain, 1284 metres, with a cable car and a view over the Rhine plain to the Vosges. A clear afternoon is enough.

Feldberg

The highest summit of the Black Forest, 1493 metres, a drive up into the high country. In winter the snow settles here first.

Triberg Waterfalls

The Gutach drops around 160 metres over several tiers. The rainy-day classic, though a good hour inland.
