Urban Camping for Self-Sufficient Vans

A front yard in Lokstedt, in the heart of Hamburg. Only vans fit here. The ornamental cherry tree above the driveway sets the height, the wall facing the street sets the width. In the morning you hear the first calls from Hagenbeck's Tierpark; it's a ten-minute walk to the zoo. Maybe Bruno, the Labrador, will come around the corner. There's no water or waste disposal, no toilet or shower — but you're five minutes from the motorway and half an hour by bike from the city center. Also practical for passing through to Denmark.1

What roadsurfer spots writes

„You'll be parked in our front garden. Dogs welcome – you might meet Bruno the Labrador.

We're located north of the Elbtunnel; the Stellingen exit is just three turns away. For those planning a city trip: Lokstedt is an urban district of Hamburg.“

Sights in the area1

Elbphilharmonie & HafenCity

The concert hall by the harbour; its Plaza at 37 metres is open without a ticket and shows the warehouse district and the Elbe from above.

Landungsbrücken & Old Elbe Tunnel

Walk under the river to Steinwerder, then look back at the cranes from the far bank. Works in the rain too.

Außenalster

The sailing lake in the middle of the city; the shore path loops past jetties and rowers. A walk for a free afternoon.

Altes Land

The large fruit-growing area south of the Elbe. In spring many cycle out among the rows during the cherry blossom.
