The largest bog in the Lüneburg Heath near Schneverdingen, crossed by a boardwalk. In late summer the heather blooms purple all around; a walk for any weather.
Tister Bauernmoor
A restored raised bog, a resting ground for thousands of cranes in autumn. Those who would rather not walk take the old moor railway — the easy version of the loop.
Außenalster
The lake in the middle of Hamburg, about 49 km away and reachable by HVV transit from Lauenbrück station. Sailboats, joggers by the shore: the city day without a car.
Heidepark Soltau
The big amusement park near Soltau with roller coasters; the outing for a day with kids when the heath hike gets too quiet.
