The field by the forest
A fenced-off piece of pasture on the edge of Ausacker, with a small forest behind it. The meadow has been left wild, only the pitch itself is paved. Electricity and waste disposal are right next door. In the morning it smells of wet grass, in the evening the forest stands dark behind the fence. The Baltic Sea is less than twenty minutes away. If you want to explore further, drive into Angeliter Land towards Schleswig, to St. Petri Cathedral and the Viking Museum Haithabu on the Schlei.1

Sights in the area1
Haithabu Viking Museum
Reconstructed Viking houses on the bank of the Schlei, plus a museum of finds from the trading settlement. The classic for a grey afternoon.
Schleswig and St. Peter's Cathedral
Old town on the Schlei, the cathedral with the Bordesholm altar rising above the roofs. A stroll through the Holm, the former fishermen's quarter, is quick.
Kappeln
A small harbour town on the Schlei with a bascule bridge and old herring fences. Excursion boats set off from here down the inlet towards the Baltic.
Kiel
State capital on the fjord, around 55 km away. The ferries at the pier and the open sea are the way out when country life gets too quiet.
