Sleep where the rainbow touches the ground
A farmland meadow at around 1000 meters above Sankt Peter, in the heart of the Black Forest. Jockenhof stands alone between forest and meadows; mobile reception is barely available here. At night, the sky is dark enough that the stars shine all the way to the horizon. The site is basic: no toilet, your vehicle must be self-sufficient, drinking water is free. You can walk directly from the farm to the Hirschbach and Zweribachfällen waterfalls. In the evening, at this altitude, it gets cool even in summer.1

Sights in the area1
Feldberg
The highest mountain in the Black Forest; paths lead over the summit, and on a clear day the view reaches the Alps. The outing for a bright day.
Schauinsland
Freiburg's local mountain, with a cable car and lookout tower; easy trails cross the pastures up top while the city lies below. An afternoon is enough for the panorama.
Freiburg im Breisgau
The university town at the edge of the Black Forest, around 21 kilometres away; the Bächle run through the old-town lanes, the Minster towering over it all. The rainy-day escape of the area.
