A meadow near Cottbus, overlooking the paddock: This is where sheep Ernie and Bert and pony Wilfried spend their golden years. In the evening, the sunset lingers over the pastures. The Spree is just over a mile and a half away, with bathing spots and a canoe launch. If you hop on a bike, you can follow the river for ten and a half miles to Burg in the Spreewald. In the neighbouring village a local museum tells of the Sorbian culture of Lower Lusatia, its own language and its customs; a spot to head for on a rainy day.
