Pitch on the edge of the Spree Forest
A meadow on the outskirts of Cottbus, where the parking spaces face the pasture. Sheep Ernie and Bert spend their retirement there. Along with pony Wilfried. A good 17 kilometres along the cycle path by the Spree. From the flat boats you see the web of channels, with cucumber fields and old farms in between.
Cottbuser Ostsee
Five kilometres to the viewpoint, where Germany's largest man-made lake in the making is slowly filling up. For anyone who likes watching a landscape take shape.
Gurkenradweg (Cucumber Cycle Route)
Two kilometres to the junction with stages 1 and 2. Flat, running past fields and waterways, manageable with kids on the bike too.
Local heritage museum in the next village
Shows the region's Sorbian traditions, from costumes to customs. The place to head when the Spree is too cold for a swim.
