The yellow-and-red lighthouse behind the dyke, familiar from the Otto film. The signposted cycle path from Greetsiel out to it is the standard loop for windy days.

Fishing village with a cutter harbour and the twin windmills, eight kilometres away. A stroll along the Sielstraße is best outside the holiday midday crowds.
Norderney
East Frisian island, reached by ferry from Norddeich. Cross early and the wide western beach is almost yours before the day-trippers arrive.

Baroque palace with a sprawling landscape garden and old trees. A place for a rainy day, when the dyke has nothing to offer.
