Rinteln Ort Volksen

Natural Paradise in the Weserbergland

A small farm near Volksen, high up in the Weserbergland, with just one pitch — there aren't more neighbours than the Ouessant sheep rams from the meadow next door. There's no road noise at all. The ground at the farm slopes slightly, so chocks belong in your luggage; those who prefer sleeping in a tent will find space in the garden. In the evening you sit by the small pond, watch the runner ducks and wait for the sunset. It's seven kilometres to Rinteln, the half-timbered town on the Weser cycle route. Campfires are permitted, firewood available on request.1

Sights in the area1

Rinteln

A half-timbered town on the Weser, seven kilometres away. Small cafés line the old-town lanes, and this is where you join the Weser cycle path for a flat day in the saddle.

Weser cycle path

The path follows the Weser almost without a climb. From Rinteln a day's stage rolls along flat, manageable with children too.

Schiedersee

A reservoir in the Lippe hills with a loop trail and a bathing spot. The fallback for warm days, when hiking gets too muggy.

Tierpark Olderdissen, Bielefeld

Bielefeld sits a good 43 kilometres on, at the edge of the Teutoburg Forest. The Tierpark Olderdissen shows native wildlife on the city's edge, a dependable option for grey days with kids.
