Wake up with the chickens and enjoy nature
A farm in Scheeßel, not far from Rotenburg an der Wümme. In the mornings, chickens roam freely across the grounds, and the dairy house smells of coffee and fresh quark. The farm shop shelves are lined with homemade pasta and herbal salts; a regional breakfast is available on request. From here, the Nordpfade trails lead into the heath and moorland landscape. Bremen is about fifty kilometers away. In the evenings, it becomes quiet.1

Sights in the area1
Pietzmoor
The largest bog in the Lüneburg Heath, a boardwalk crosses the dark stretches of water. In August the surrounding heather turns purple; a good half-day trip in dry weather.
Totengrund
A bowl-shaped heath valley near Wilsede, framed by juniper bushes. During the late-summer heather bloom it's one of the most visited corners of the Lüneburg Heath; come early.
Bremen
The Hanseatic city, about fifty kilometres to the west. St Petri Cathedral with its twin towers looms over the market square; the region's city day when the weather's too poor for walking.
