Fort at the horse farm

A roundpen directly at the horse farm near Greiz, surrounded by a wooden privacy fence. Next to it, the pasture, behind that the riding arena, otherwise just nature. In the mornings it smells of hay and horse, plus the snorting from the paddock. The place is simple, but you're right in the middle of the operation and in the evening you hardly hear more than the wind. Greiz is located in the Thuringian Vogtland, where the Höllental gorge cuts through the rock. A day trip reaches the dam wall of the Bleiloch reservoir. All around: meadows and fences.1

Sights in the area1

Höllental

A narrow rocky gorge in the Vogtland, crossed by a trail over boardwalks and steps. Shady and cool even in high summer.

Bleiloch Reservoir dam

Germany's largest reservoir, held back by a massive concrete dam. Lakeside paths and pleasure boats for a rainy afternoon.

Burgk Castle

A stubborn hilltop castle above the Saale, barely changed since the Renaissance. One afternoon covers the courtyard and the view.

Rabenstein Castle near Chemnitz

Saxony's smallest medieval castle, a good 49 km away. The Chemnitz valley cycle path with its old railway tunnel runs almost to the gate.
