Jade

The green nature with good connections for cycling

A meadow near Jade, sheltered by trees, an old barn and a wild fence. Next to it runs an old farm track, perfect for a peaceful walk with your dog; an eagle sometimes circles over the meadows. The farmhouse behind it is called Chorengelshaus, along with a small river, the Wapel. All around: meadows, meadows, meadows. If you get on your bike, you'll reach Varel harbour and the North Sea in just over a quarter of an hour. It's about 24 kilometres to Oldenburg. Otherwise, not much going on.1

Sights in the area1

Vareler Hafen

A small North Sea harbour on the Jadebusen, a good quarter of an hour from the meadow by bike. Boats, dyke and the smell of the mudflats in one afternoon.

Jaderzoo

The animal park in Jaderberg, five to ten minutes away. Modest in size, but the obvious outing when there are children on board.

Oldenburg

The nearest larger town, about 24 kilometres off. Pedestrian zone, palace and state museums — the bad-weather fallback for the area.
