Zöllnitz

Campsite in Zöllnitz

A large property in Zöllnitz, with hosts who love the outdoors themselves. Camping takes place on the grounds, the dry toilet is at the back of the garden. If the weather turns bad, you'll find a dry spot. Pets should stay at home – the hosts ask for this explicitly. In the mornings, you mainly hear birds. It's seven kilometers to Jena, and a bit further up to Jenzig; from up there, the city lies nestled between the Muschelkalk slopes. Otherwise: minimal activities.1

Sights in the area1

Jenzig

Jena's local hill, with views across the Saale valley. A steep climb, then a meadow above the city rooftops — the obvious first afternoon.

Lobdeburg ruins

The remains of a medieval castle on a spur above the Saale valley. Little masonry is left, but the view over the valley makes up for it; a short forest path leads up.

Jena

University town about seven kilometres away, known for the Zeiss planetarium and its optics collections. The rainy-day fallback when the garden is out.
