Campsite in Haltern am See

A small tent meadow on the hosts' property in Haltern am See, space for two tents such as hikers and cyclists bring with them. Overnight stays, nothing more. WC and shower can be used by arrangement, dogs are better left at home. In the morning you mainly hear blackbirds, later the first bicycles roll toward Halterner Stausee. The reservoir belongs to the town, the Heidesee is one of the swimming lakes in the area. It's about 20 kilometers to Recklinghausen.1

Sights in the area1

Halterner Stausee

The town reservoir, with sandy shores and a circular path for bikes; the closest place to cool off after a day in the saddle.

Heidesee

A swimming lake in the Haltern lake district, quieter than the reservoir; good for an afternoon when the big water gets busy.

Recklinghausen

Old Hanseatic town some 20 kilometres away, with a ring-shaped old town and the Icon Museum; the rainy-day classic around here.

Rhein-Herne-Kanal

The canal cycle path runs almost flat right across the Ruhr area, past locks and the remains of old collieries.
