Kröpelin

Camping site "Zur Kühlung

A campsite above Kröpelin, on the Diedrichshäger Berg — the highest elevation on the Mecklenburg mainland coast. The view stretches far across open countryside. Eight pitches have fresh water, four have electricity only, the remaining around 25 are simply basic: standing space, nothing else. In the evening, the campfire burns. The hosts rent out bicycles and cargo bikes; the farm shop stocks what the region has to offer. It's not far to the Baltic Sea at Kühlungsborn and Rerik, and Rostock is 26 kilometres away.1

Sights in the area1

Kühlungsborn Seaside Resort

Baltic resort with a long promenade and a pier; the narrow-gauge Molli steam train runs from here to Bad Doberan, an outing without the car.

Rerik on the Salzhaff

Baltic resort on the narrow spit between the open sea and the Salzhaff lagoon. The shallow lagoon warms up earlier than the sea, good for small children.

Bad Doberan Minster

Brick Gothic Cistercian church with its original choir stalls and high altar; the rainy-day standby of the region.

Rostock

Hanseatic city 26 kilometres away, brick gables around Kröpeliner Strasse and the city harbour on the Warnow; the town day when the wind comes off the sea.
