Camping in Franconian Switzerland
A large gravel parking area at the Gasthaus zum Grünen Baum in Dormitz, on the western edge of the Fränkische Schweiz. No grass. Instead, solid ground under your wheels and in the evening the historic guest rooms, where the smell of Franconian cuisine fills the air. It's about ten kilometers to Erlangen. If you continue eastward, you'll reach the Wiesenttal, where limestone cliffs come close to the road. The hike up to Ehrenbürg takes up a morning. In the mornings, commuter traffic rolls toward the city.1

Sights in the area1
Teufelshöhle Pottenstein
One of the large dripstone caves of Franconian Switzerland, cool and dry inside all year. The classic for rainy days and for afternoons that get too hot outside.
Wiesent Valley
The valley of the river Wiesent runs between limestone cliffs and old mills, easy going by bike. To spot climbers, just look up at the rock faces.
Ehrenbürg (Walberla)
The table mountain above the Wiesent valley, roughly an hour up. The view opens towards the Regnitz valley, and Franconian Switzerland starts below.
Erlangen
University town about ten kilometres away, with a palace garden and a grid-plan old town. The place to go when shopping and half a city day fall together.
