Beautiful pitch with a view Saxony Switzerland
Near Struppen, on the grounds of a former hiking hostel below the Rauenstein, the parking area sits at the edge of an old fruit orchard, with forest right behind it. Climbing rocks and trails start within running distance, and hiking paths lead directly from the meadow. The site accommodates buses and small campervans up to six metres long. Nothing larger fits. Other groups sometimes camp on the grounds as well; if you're looking for peace and quiet, it's best to ask beforehand. It's not far to Bastei and Königstein Fortress, and Dresden is around 25 kilometres away.1

The long-distance trail through Saxon Switzerland, named for the Romantic painters who worked here. Walkable in day stages, the rock ladders included.
Dresden
About 25 kilometres downriver lies Dresden, with the Fürstenzug of Meissen porcelain and the Blue Wonder bridge over the Elbe. The city day, when the hiking is enough.
