If you're lucky, you'll have the place to yourself: plenty of grass, plenty of peace and quiet, plenty of space for dogs to roam across the field in the evenings. From here, trails lead to the Kaskadenschlucht and the Gemündener Hütte, classic Rhön tours. It's a good sixty kilometers to Würzburg. In the evening: just the stream.1

A hikers' hut at the foot of the high Rhön, the starting point for walks up the Kreuzberg. The reliable stop after a long loop over the heights.

The baroque city on the Main with its Residenz palace and the vineyards above the river, a good 61 km away. The day trip when you want culture over woods.
