About 37 kilometres away lies the old residence city on the Main. The baroque Residenz palace is a World Heritage Site, and the Marienberg fortress stands above the vineyards. The classic for a day away from the vines.
Fränkische Saale
The river running through Hammelburg joins the Main further west. Its flat valley is followed by a cycle path — the easy ride between the wine villages, gentle enough for children too.
Rhön
To the north the land rises into the Rhön, an upland range and biosphere reserve with broad mountain meadows and dark night skies. For hiking, when the trip should climb out of the wine country.
