A parking spot near Leibertingen, right next to the paddock with the Longhorn cattle. In the evening you can watch the animals — that's entertainment enough. The hosts are friendly, and the ground is sloped — if you've got levelling blocks, you'll stand straighter. Paths lead down from the spot into the Danube valley, where the hikes begin. To Reutlingen: a good fifty kilometres. Spread across the Swabian Alb are Lichtenstein Castle and Hohenzollern Castle, perfect for a rainy day.1

The young Danube cuts in tight bends through the limestone of the Alb. The hikes from the site follow the cliffs and the river, the main reason to come.
Lichtenstein Castle
The castle clings to a rock edge of the Swabian Alb, high above the Echaz valley. A worthwhile detour on the way back toward Reutlingen.
Hohenzollern Castle
The ancestral seat of the Hohenzollerns sits on a cone-shaped hill above the Alb, visible from afar. On a clear day the view reaches the Alps, the classic for a bright day.
