Dömitz

AlpacaCamping 5268

Little is known about this site in Dömitz — only that guests were welcomed warmly and found themselves right in the thick of things, close to the action. One night, then they moved on; too short, they thought. The rest is told by the location. Dömitz lies on the Elbe, dominated by an old brick star fortress. In the morning, the river flows past broad and sluggish, beyond it stretches the vast Elbe valley. In the evening, it becomes quiet by the water.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„We were received very warmly. The pitch was beautiful and we felt right in the heart of the action. It was a shame that we could only stay one night. We'd love to come back. Thank you for the kind welcome.“

Sights in the area1

Dömitz Fortress

A well-preserved 16th-century star fort right in town. Inside is a museum on the history of the Elbe; the walk along the ramparts is Dömitz's bad-weather outing.

Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve

One of the large conservation areas along the Elbe, a resting and breeding ground for storks and cranes. In autumn it's the place to watch the crane flights over the meadows.

Elbe Cycle Route

The long-distance path follows the Elbe from its source to the North Sea and runs right through Dömitz; the flat stage along the dikes works with children too.
