AlpacaCamping 2463

A parking spot near Detmold, about which only one person speaks, and they're disappointed. The meadow was overgrown, the fire bowl barely visible under the brush. The spot doesn't have much more to offer right now, which is why there's nothing else listed here. But all around it is the Teutoburger Wald: it's not far to the Hermannsdenkmal. To Bielefeld with its Tierpark Olderdissen is about 23 kilometers away. Grass under the wheels, forest on the horizon.1

What AlpacaCamping writes

„The campsite was completely overgrown and the fire bowl was nowhere to be found! We decided to choose a different location! I cannot recommend the site in its current state!“

Sights in the area1

Hermannsdenkmal

The colossal statue above Detmold commemorates the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest. From the platform at its base the view runs far across the wooded hills — the lookout of the area.

Externsteine

A row of tall sandstone rocks near Horn-Bad Meinberg, where hiking trails and ancient reliefs meet. A short climb is worth it, a classic for a day out in the Lipperland.

LWL Open-Air Museum Detmold

One of Germany's largest open-air museums, with historic farmhouses and mills across a wide site. Plenty of room to walk, the Sunday trip for families.

Tierpark Olderdissen

Around 23 kilometres away lies Bielefeld. The Tierpark Olderdissen on the edge of town shows native animals in spacious enclosures, the family outing into the city.
