Tangstedt

AlpacaCamping 245

An old dairy farm near Tangstedt, north of Hamburg. The parking spot described online no longer exists as described; those who arrive park spontaneously on a meadow behind the cow barn, right next to the field. Facilities: none. No toilet, no water, no fire pit — it works for one night. In exchange, the cows are less than a meter away on the pasture; in the morning you hear them chewing. The farmer takes you on the tractor and shows you the calves in the barn. To Hamburg with the Elbphilharmonie it's around 22 kilometers.1

Elbphilharmonie & HafenCity

The glass concert hall on top of an old warehouse by the harbour; its viewing plaza is free to enter and the go-to bad-weather trip in Hamburg, about 22 kilometres away.

Altes Land

One of northern Europe's largest fruit-growing areas south of the Elbe; in spring the cherry blossom makes the dyke roads a fine ride by bike.

Landungsbrücken & Old Elbe Tunnel

The floating piers at the harbour, with the Old Elbe Tunnel running beneath the river to the shipyard side; a short walk with harbour views.

Außenalster

The large lake in the middle of Hamburg, ringed by a path for joggers and rowers; in summer the city's gathering spot.
