Pietzmoor
A raised bog on the edge of Schneverdingen, a boardwalk leads across the dark water. Heather blooms all around in late summer; on autumn mornings mist rises from the peat cuts. A good walk even under grey skies.
Totengrund
A well-known heath valley near Wilsede, entirely without roads. From the sandy paths around it you look down into the hollow; during the August bloom the early morning is worth it.
Außenalster
The large lake in the middle of Hamburg, about 55 kilometres away. Sailboats criss-cross it while half of Hamburg jogs along the shore. The loop around the water is the classic city day out.
