Steinhöfel

AlpacaCamping 1045

The host writes just a single sentence: the site is nature-oriented, the reception is friendly. That's all there is to it. Steinhöfel lies in eastern Brandenburg, between pine forests and wide open fields. Tents and motorhomes are welcome. Berlin is a good 41 kilometers away, close enough for a day at the Brandenburg Gate. On the way back, you trade the streetcar for a country lane. On autumn evenings, cranes fly over the hollows, loud enough to make you put your book down.1

Sights in the area1

Müggelsee

Berlin's largest lake, far out in the east of the city and ringed by pine forest. A path runs all the way round, with swimming spots on the north shore; the trip for hot days.

Brandenburg Gate

The landmark on Pariser Platz, a good 41 kilometres away. Most Berlin days start here, with Unter den Linden right behind it.

Märkische Schweiz Nature Park

Beech woods, hills and small lakes to the north, unusually hilly ground for Brandenburg. The path through the Stobber valley walks well in the rain too.
