The Upper Palatinate Forest
Quiet, forested borderland mountains in the Upper Palatinate along the Czech border.
The Oberpfälzer Wald is a low mountain range in eastern Bavaria that extends through the Oberpfalz along the border with the Czech Republic. It adjoins the Fichtelgebirge to the north and transitions into the Bayerischer Wald to the south; beyond the border it continues into the Böhmerwald. The landscape is sparsely populated, heavily forested and characterized by wooded peaks, streams and small ponds. Peace and quiet, vast forests and a network of hiking trails make the region a rather peaceful destination for outdoor activities.
