The Middle Rhine
Steep vineyards, castles on every rocky outcrop, the river winding in tight loops — the Upper Middle Rhine Valley is part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
The Middle Rhine refers to the narrow Rhine valley between Bingen and Koblenz, whose upper section is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The river has carved itself deeply into the Rhenish Slate Mountains, vineyards grow on the steep slopes, and castles and ruins are lined up on the rocks. The most famous landmark is the Lorelei rock above a sharp bend in the river. For outdoor activities, there are river and ridge trails, cycling along the Rhine, and views from the vineyard terraces.
