Ammergau Alps
Forested valley slopes, bright limestone peaks towering above, and expansive mountain meadows — the Ammergauer Alps are a peaceful corner of the Bavarian foothills on the border with Tyrol.
The Ammergauer Alps are located in the south of Upper Bavaria around Oberammergau and Ettal and extend to the Austrian border. They are part of the Northern Limestone Alps: spruce and beech forests at lower elevations, followed by free-standing limestone peaks and open alpine meadows. The Ammer River and the Graswangtal valley run through the landscape and give it its name. For outdoor enthusiasts, this means a dense network of hiking and cycling routes, sometimes gently through the valley, sometimes steeply up to the heights. For those who camp, forest, water, and mountains are all within close reach.
What you ought to see — my picks.
Lechfall
The Lechfall is one of the most beautiful sights in the Ammergau Alps. It's an easy hike, but it will take you on a journey through time as you pass ancient trees and see waterfalls that have been here for centuries. You shouldn't miss it!
Buchenbergalm
The Buchenbergalm is one of the most beautiful places in the Ammergau Alps. The view from up there is spectacular and you can also see some rare plants on your way. You will experience nature at its best when you go hiking with us!
View into the valley
The view from these vantage points is absolutely breathtaking. You can see all of Ammergau and Neuschwanstein Castle in the distance. It's an amazing sight that will take your breath away!
Summit cross Kofel
This is the perfect place. The Kofel summit cross offers a fantastic view of the Ammergau Alps and plenty of space to sit back and take it all in. It's also a great place to go hiking or just explore nature. You can even bring your dog!
Branderschrofen - Tegelberg
Tegelberg is one of the most popular mountains in Germany. It's an easy day trip from Munich and offers incredible views of Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland. But if you're looking for something more challenging, you should try climbing to the top! From there, you'll have a fantastic view of the Ammergau Valley.
Kolbensattelhütte
The Kolbensattelhütte is the perfect place to spend your next vacation. Located in the Ammergau Alps, the hut offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You can hike up to it or take the Alpine Coaster from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Either way, you can enjoy delicious food and drinks in this cozy hut after an eventful day.
